Art Action (Montréal) and the centre en art actuel Le Lieu (Québec), invites professional artists, emerging or established, whose practice falls within the field of action art, public intervention, in situ and/or in socius experimentation, to submit their application for a collective research and creation residency.

This three-week residency will take place on the Magdalen Islands in March 2026.

MANOEUVRES : Maritime Performance Art Encounters in the Magdalen Islands

Designed as a laboratory for experimentation and sharing, the MANOEUVRES residency will bring six selected artists together to put their approaches, thoughts and experiences into dialogue. During the residency, the artists will have the opportunity to devote themselves to research, exploration, creation and discussion, while preparing an action that will be presented at the end of the residency.

In addition to the interaction between the participating artists, the territory and community of the Magdalen Islands provide a unique and inspiring context in which to work. The spectacular landscape, the meteorological constraints, and the relationship with the local population are inescapable dimensions with which to interact. That said, a central challenge for the artistic proposals of this residency will be to maintain an embodied presence, to not dissolve into mere contemplation of the landscape, but to remain a body in action within it.

Dissemination and public presentation

To foster moments of sharing and encounter, each artist will be invited to propose an activity for the community, such as a workshop, a discussion or a presentation. Public exchanges will not be limited to artistic activities, but will also include moments of conviviality between the artists in residence, such as shared meals, walks, and informal conversations.

The dissemination aspect of the project will include an event held at the end of the residency in the Magdalen Islands, as well as various interventions in public space and within the community.

“From this moment on, art ceases to be present around us and finds its support within us.”
(Alain-Martin Richard, 2012, p.279)

ELIGIBILITY

Be a professional artist (see definition), emerging or established;

Be a resident of Quebec or the Atlantic Provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, P.E.I.);

Have a performance art practice (see specificity above).

CONDITIONS

Residency fee: $535 / week / artist;

Fee for a public performance: $515;

Fee for presenting/hosting a public activity: $380;

Group accommodations (private room and bathroom, large common area, shared kitchen);

Transport costs: up to $850, if not awarded a travel grant;

Production costs: up to $300;

Artistic, logistical and technical support.

CONTENT OF THE APPLICATION
The file must consist of a single PDF document, accompanied by a visual dossier. It must be transferred by WeTransfer to manoeuvres@admare.org and include the following items:

The application form (download here);

A proposal describing your project, or process and areas of experimentation, as well as how this fits within with your broader artistic approach (700 words maximum);

A biography (150 words maximum);

A curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum);

A description of the supporting documents included in the visual dossier (e.g. year, title, place of creation, materials, dimensions and/or other relevant information);

The visual dossier must include: a maximum of 15 selected images of recent works (.JPG format, 72 dpi, not exceeding 1.0 MB).
